Project Development
A great idea is just the start
I will work with you to set a long term vision and break this down into realistic stages for delivery.
I will bring new ideas and best practice from other projects and organisations and I will also help you to identify new opportunities and innovation where appropriate. Where we go from here will be up to you but your project development could include any or all of the following:
- Options appraisal
- Stakeholder consultation
- Detailed project budget
- Identifying possible income sources
- Presenting cashflows
- Activity planning
- Identifying core messages and communications needs
- Writing briefs and job descriptions
- Establishing project milestones and/or agreeing measures of success
Project development often goes hand in hand with grant fundraising but it doesn't have to. Sometimes the project development needs to happen before any steps in securing funding can take place. Read more about fundraising support here.
Red Squirrel Recovery Network
In 2019 I began working with a partnership of Wildlife Trusts and other organisations to develop a new project to protect red squirrels in northern England. This was submitted to The National Lottery Heritage Fund early in 2020 but funding was not achieved as all bids were paused due to the new covid pandemic.
Over the next few years I continued to provide support as the partnership and project ambition: the project area grew to include southern Scotland, new partners were engaged and the project adapted to align with developing science.
In 2023 Development Phase funding was secured and I was appointed to support the partnership to develop the detail of their project - including engaging volunteers, developing activity plans, tailoring activities to meet the needs of communities and landscapes across five counties, developing budgets and contract briefs, working with other consultants and bringing together a robust plan for delivery.
