Strategic Planning

Where are you going and why?

Writing strategies can often be part of a project development or fundraising process but it is also something that I offer on its own.

I am a firm believer of setting long term goals and then working backwards to build projects and activities that work towards these. I will always start with questions about the difference/impact you want to achieve.

Once we have a long-term vision, we can talk about how you will get there. Using a range of techniques and working with stakeholders at all levels (managers, staff, volunteers, external agencies, community, children/young people) I will propose new objectives and activities which will enable your organisation to deliver its goal.

This process could also involve:

  • Policy review
  • Financial forecasts
  • Risk analysis
  • Consultation
  • Income projections
  • Volunteer recruitment and retention
  • Skills audit
  • Training needs analysis
  • Options appraisal

My skill is listening to different stakeholders and pulling together a clear vision which is easy to understand, realistic to deliver and will achieve meaningful impact.

Northumberland Rights of Way Improvement Plan

Northumberland County Council approached me for help with developing their Rights of Way Improvement Plan (ROWIP). I worked with Council Officers and a range of stakeholders to understand the issues and deliver a new Plan which met the statutory criteria and could provide a foundation for future work. It set out a clear vision and identified the priorities needed to achieve this.

The Northumberland ROWIP can be viewed here (content and design by me).

Countryside and Green Spaces Manager, Northumberland County Council

Thanks so much Katherine for all your work (and considerable patience) in turning out a fabulous ROWIP for us that has delighted the JLAF, impressed the ROW Committee and will surely wow cabinet next week,

I would love to hear about your project
