Measuring Success

I have been getting stuck into a couple of evaluation projects over the last couple of weeks. I find evaluation fascinating. It raises so many questions and really makes me think. Two questions that I seem to be asking over and over again are “how do you know this?” and “does it matter?”.

I am musing on these questions for a couple of projects I am working with now. In particular, does it matter if project participants don’t understand what it is all about? Can you achieve project success without raising awareness? Can you inspire action without increasing knowledge? How do we know that any of this has been achieved anyway?

I’m looking forward to talking these questions through over the next few months.
