July 15, 2022Northumberland Wildlife Trust is celebrating five years of wildlife discovery at its spectacular centre at Hauxley Nature Reserve. Read more here.
Securing funding for the Hauxley Wildlife Discovery Centre was one of the first contracts I worked on in Northumberland. A grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, together with other funding from charitable trusts and public donations, enabled NWT, working with innovative architect Henry Amos of Brightblue Studio, to create this unique building and deliver a range of habitat improvement works on the nature reserve. Astonishingly the Centre is built from straw bales but you would never know this now – building it wasn’t all smooth sailing but with a lot of hard work from staff and volunteers this eco-building opened its doors on 24th June 2017.
The Centre is a real treat for wildlife lovers and both the building and the nature reserve are accessible spaces. The scones are highly recommended too!
I am so proud to have played a small part in bringing Northumberland Wildlife Trust’s vision to life and enabling more people to get closer to nature.
