Exploring Heritage in Benwell

Some photos from this morning: exploring the heritage of Benwell in Newcastle. This is part of a community partnership project I am supporting to improve Hodgkin Park, working with HealthWORKS, Northumberland Wildlife Trust, Newcastle City Council, The Rise, Friends of Hodgkin Park, Bridgewater School and others.

​Benwell, previously one of the most sought after locations in the north east, has a rich and varied heritage but the villages, fine houses and green spaces have now largely been ‘swallowed up’ by the expansion of the city. The Benwell of 100+ years ago is almost unrecognisable today. Discovering the past this morning was fascinating.
